Our Department is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty to teach Automotive Technology.

  • Beyond the required education and experience instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.
  • This is an application pool posting for 2023-2024. The assigned location for this position is at the Lane Community College's main campus located in Eugene, Oregon.

Required QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
  • Master ASE Automotive certification (in all eight areas), or ability to acquire certification within one (1) year.
OR
  • Degree in Automotive Technology or related field and two (2) or more years of recent experience as a technician or management level.
OR
  • Equivalent education and professional experience in Automotive Technology.

Required Experience:
Recent experience in a professional Automotive Technology field that would include one (1) or more of the following areas: engine repair, automatic transmission/transaxle, manual drive trains and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, heating, and air conditioning, and engine performance.
Licensure or Certification Requirements

Bachelor degree in Automotive Technology or equivalent.

  • Experience working with computerized automotive trainers.
  • Experience working with Hybrid Electrical Vehicles.
  • Community College teaching experience.
  • Automotive foreman/supervision experience.

Position Purpose:
To provide high quality instruction to students taking Automotive Technology courses to assist students enter or transition into the workforce.
Essential Functions:
Plan, write, and administer Automotive curricula to include teaching:

  • Industrial safety practices
  • Brakes
  • Engine Repair
  • Suspension and Steering
  • Manual Drive Trains and Axles
  • Automatic Transmissions/ Transaxles
  • Electrical and Electronic Systems
  • Engine Performance
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
  • Introduction To Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Essential Functions

  • Provide students with a quality learning experience through professional classroom management, use of diverse methods of instructional delivery, (including use of computer-generated informational assistance), and laboratory activities.
  • Promote and facilitate awareness in developing multicultural and diversity-based curricula.
  • Establish, assess, revise class objectives, and select specific class content consistent with students' educational needs and objectives of the Automotive Technology Program.
  • Integrate diverse aspects of culture into language teaching.
  • Develop suitable course materials using computer technology in instruction and in new content development.
  • Work individually, as well as with other instructors, to develop and continually update course outlines, prepare assignments, and develop teaching methodologies.
  • Evaluate and maintain accurate records of student progress, and provide appropriate and timely feedback to students regarding performance.
  • Effectively instruct through verbal, written, and demonstration methods. Continuously document and maintain records of student achievement.
  • Work individually with students during office hours and in other settings to help them with course content questions relating to Automotive Technology program options and choices.
  • Regularly provide student progress reports. Participate in the ongoing evaluation of student work.
  • Must demonstrate an active concern for meeting the needs of students, staff, and the public.
  • Work with division members, other faculty, and tutors to help improve student placement, retention, curriculum, instruction, and the learning environment.
  • Manage and facilitate communications between Division Chair, support staff, and full- and part-time faculty.
  • Maintain currency in the Automotive Technology field. Acquire and maintain additional professional certifications as appropriate.
  • Promote, develop and maintain professional relations with professionals in the industry, College committees, high schools, other colleges, and professional organizations.
  • Participate in the Automotive Technology Advisory Committee meetings.

Support student learning through activities that include:

  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions.
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching.
  • Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Maintain and post teaching schedule, regular meetings and office hours.
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified in the .
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory .
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

Online Teaching and Student Support

  • Expect to make use of the Learning Management System (LMS) to publish and update content, post grades and promote student engagement among students with course content.
  • Use multiple modes of communication tools including online publishing, audio, and video tools.
  • Be present within the online course to interact with students, help guide asynchronous discussions and provide opportunities for students' voices to be heard within the online course.
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success.
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback.
  • Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours.
  • Ensure that all materials created are accessible and meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Post student attendance, grades, and course syllabus to the college LMS in accordance with college timelines.
  • Use current best practices and pedagogies for teaching online including the application of online course quality frameworks for clearly providing course learning objectives to students, while consistently setting clear weekly and term-long expectations for work and assessment.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

Supervision Statement:
